STOWAWAY is a conundrum to me. It features four, solid actors, Toni Collette, Anna Kendrick, Daniel Dae Kim and Shamier Anderson, trying their best to breathe life and authenticity into their respective characters. There are moments of intense action scenes that had me leaning forward trying to guess what would happen next. But oh my gosh, there were too many holes in the script that just could not be ignored.

The film creates more of a moral dilemma than a space movie. What would you do if a stowaway was found on a rocket ship headed for Mars and there was only enough oxygen for 3 of the now 4 people? Could you kill him? Or try to find a way for all of you to survive? This is the whole enchilada in a nutshell.

The problem with STOWAWAY is we are not given enough of a back story to care about these people or the terrible decision they have to make. I wasn’t emotionally invested. I did like, however, that the writers showed all of them as ordinary people trying to do their jobs. They were not perfect, and that made the film more interesting.

STOWAWAY disappointed me, but perhaps there are more of you who will enjoy the moral angst. I look forward to viewing movies where “no man has boldly gone before.”

STOWAWAY is available to stream on Netflix.
