Disney's newest "princess" movie may have more in common with GAME OF THRONES and INDIANA JONES than TANGLED and the first FROZEN.
Everything from the Southeast Asian inspired setting to the Action/Adventure plot to the stellar voice cast makes RAYA AND THE LAST DRAGON a must-watch. Although the plot may end up feeling a tiny bit generic, the emotional payoff and the powerful moral make up for it.
On top of it all, RAYA AND THE LAST DRAGON is visually stunning, beautifully illustrating the diversity of its world. As a character, Raya is relatable (complete with some goofiness and sarcasm), but is also confident, strong, and intelligent. The message feels so topical - as Raya's father says:
“If we don’t stop and learn to trust one another again, it’s only a matter of time before we tear each other apart.”
RAYA AND THE LAST DRAGON is available for Premier Access on Disney+ now.
