Bill Gates' lecture on pandemics inspired me to listen to his latest book on climate disaster. He scratches the surface on global warming by breaking down transportation, infrastructure, farming and housing. These industries must change for the world to not turn into dust ala INTERSTELLAR.
Unfortunately, the Audio book uses Will Wheaton to narrate and I couldn’t help thinking I was back in the OASIS via READY PLAYER ONE / TWO, listening to Wade Watts discuss our climate. It’s a shame because the opening chapters voiced by Gates are riveting. Why he handed his book over to the ‘80s actor and not use his own oral presentation doesn’t make sense and distracts from the data.
The book also fails to capture clear tactical strategies that we can do in our day-to-day to make a difference. It feels more like HOW TO ACCEPT CLIMATE DISASTER instead of HOW TO AVOID it. The most meaningful part is Gates’ ability to break down extremely complex problems to an approachable presentation. In that sense, this book is a success as it is a complete guide for any world leader or individual to use the facts in this book as leverage for change.
It’s available via Audible and all book retailers.
