A NATIONAL TREASURE-like spoof is the plot mechanism in another disappointing edition of RICK AND MORTY. This week's story is about Rick vs. the President in a deep gobble battle that transforms them into turkeys.
Something has gone "fowl" in the last two episodes. First, AMORTYCAN GRICKFITTI "didn't cut the chut," and now THANKSPLOITATION SPECTACULAR is an "over-stuffed" edition that I don't want to go back to for second helpings.
I love that the show is still just as bonkers as it was the last several seasons, but what's missing right now is the emotional connection to either Rick's sadness or the damage that he has done to his family. That emotional connection is what separated RICK AND MORTY from not just being another SOUTH PARK. So I want to snap a "wishbone" and return undercooked season five to the chef, demanding a refund.
"It's time to turn up the broiler," and 🤞 next week, RICK AND MORTY are back to what it does best; emotional meta-humor.
It's available to skip on Adult Swim.
